South Chicago Elderly Housing
South Chicago Senior Housing is one of six properties acquired by POAH from the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago in 2019. This acquisition expanded POAH’s footprint in Chicago into three new communities plus the suburb of Harvey, and preserved 461 affordable apartments for low-income seniors for many years to come.
POAH co-owns South Chicago Elderly Housing with Claretian Associates, a nonprofit housing developer and community services provider based in South Chicago. Claretian runs some of its operations in the building and provides wellness and other social services to tenants.
Amenities include a community cafeteria, business center, day care center, laundry facilities, a playground, and an on-site recreation center with a swimming pool, basketball court and fitness center.
South Chicago Elderly Housing is less than 20 minutes from downtown Chicago and within walking distance of hospitals, grocery stores and other community amenities. Residents of South Chicago Elderly Housing enjoy direct access to public transit via multiple Chicago Transit Authority bus stops and the 93rd Street South Chicago Metra station.
